Traditions

Halloween -
Right now, Patrick and I celebrate Halloween by decorating our home and passing out candy to all the adorable trick-or-treaters! Sometimes we will go to the corn maze and pumpkin farm a couple miles away to have some fall fun! Every year in Crystal's classroom they do a pumpkin investigation by scooping, counting, and sorting all the icky gooey seeds. The pumpkins usually come home and we carve them together. We then dry out all the gooey seeds and roast the seeds to share with our friends, family, and Crystal's class. It's always a delicious fall treat!

Thanksgiving -
Thanksgiving is usually at Patrick's mom's house. We all bring some type of Thanksgiving side and of course steal bits of the Turkey before dinner! Patrick has been the turkey carver since his dad passed in 2003, which he is honored to do! We usually spend the morning looking through the Black Friday Ads and talking about Christmas plans while the guys go out and play a game of football in the yard, followed by a delicious dinner. We usually go around the table and tell what we are thankful for that year and share memories from the past. We then gather around and nap, play games, and watch football!

Christmas Eve - Dance Party!
Christmas Eve is usually a time where everyone's friends and family come to gather at Kate and Jamie's house to have a party. We have good food and good music! We almost always end the night dancing in some way and of course staying up late to wrap presents! Patrick almost always wraps Crystal's after she falls asleep because she likes to go on a hunt to find out what they are!

Christmas -
Every Christmas Patrick gets Crystal 2 Hallmark ornaments for their tree. Patrick and Crystal's tree has some of her childhood ornaments and some of his childhood ornaments. Patrick and Kate were able to choose their own ornament each year and their mom tagged it with the year. We hope to do the same with our children. Christmas has usually been at Kate and Jamie's house because they have been raising our niece and nephew.   We usually end up staying the night Christmas Eve and wake up early (and really its usually Crystal waking up super early and WAITING for everyone else to wake up because she's so excited!) Christmas morning to have a Christmas breakfast and open stockings. Everyone but Crystal usually eats a grapefruit for good luck! We also always have the movie "A Christmas Story" on for the 24 hour marathon! Then we gather around the tree and open presents. Afterwards we usually watch movies or play games like Kinect before we have Christmas lunch/dinner. All of us then go home to our own homes and enjoy Christmas night. We would love to continue the traditions in our own home as we start our family and even start some of our own traditions! We can't wait to see our house filled with love and laughter and good memories around our Christmas tree and the light in our childrens' eyes!

Easter - Egg Bump!
Every Easter we gather at Patrick's mom's house and enjoy the traditional Easter foods. We usually start the dinner by playing a fun "Egg Bump" game and end the dinner with an Easter Egg hunt. To win at Egg Bump, you have to hit your egg on both sides with another player at the table. The first person to make it around to everyone left playing without 1 of their egg sides broken wins! Sometimes we will even play some family games like Apples to Apples or Scattergories!

4th of July-
Every 4th of July we spend with friends and family or both. Because Joyce's birthday is that week we sometimes take a family vacation to a beach like Cape May, Beaufort, or this coming year - Tybee Island, GA. On other years we gather with our friends at the local hot spot for fireworks and everyone brings something for the "cook out". We'll enjoy good music, fun games, and good food! And of course, some magnificent fireworks!

Mother's Day and Father's Day -
Both Patrick's family and our brother-in-law Jamie's family always get together for Mother's Day and Father's Day. We usually do some sort of cookout and enjoy spending time around the dinner table eating and catching up! We always follow it up with coffee and desserts and of course presents! If it's nice out you'll probably find all of us outside on the porch!
